FAQs

How do we choose an album with you? And how long does the design and manufacture process take?

During our initial meeting I will show you a selection of beautiful digital wedding albums (these are albums where the photos are printed on the same paper) but it’s entirely up to you if you would like to purchase one at that time or after the wedding. If you would like one you will need to select about 80-90 of your favourite images (I can help you with the selection process with a special selection program I have as I know it can be a bit daunting.) Then once we have chosen the exact album and images you would like, I will design it myself before sending a PDF proof design to you for any changes, before being sent away to be physically printed and made. The manufacturing process takes about three-four weeks, while the design process usually takes 5-7 days depending on how quickly we can select the photos and how many changes you would like.

What happens after the wedding? How long will it take to receive the photos?

I don’t hang around after the wedding and spend weeks preparing images. I aim to get the web gallery, the proof album, the high-resolution disc and the DVD slideshow to you within 14-21 working days. During very busy summer months it may take a little longer, but usually I just work harder. If you need them sooner for any reason I can try to get them to you quicker. For example I once worked with a couple who were emigrating to Spain three days after their wedding, so I stayed up all night for a few days and got them delivered before they left.

How many photos can we expect to receive?

You will receive an unlimited number of images, and as every wedding is so different it’s hard to put an exact number on it, but for an ‘average’ wedding of 75-100 guests, with a full day's coverage, you can expect anywhere between 200-400 images.

Do you use assistants?

Usually I work alone which makes for a more intimate experience, but sometimes, for a very large wedding for instance, an assistant is useful. If I think an assistant is necessary, or if you would like an assistant, this will only be arranged beforehand with your permission, and with any extra costs clear for you both to see.

Do we own the copyright?

As the photographer the copyright of the images remains with me. Effectively however, I license you to use the images in any way you wish. The only time I will need to know is if the images are used for commercial purposes, in wedding magazines for instance.

What equipment do you use?

My main kit includes two Canon 5D Mark II, 21 megapixel cameras, with 24-70mm f2.8, and 70-200mm IS MKII f2.8 lenses, arguably the best professional wedding camera system available and used by many of the top photographers in the world. I also use 35mm f.2, 50ml f1.8 lenses, the latest flash speedlites, reflectors, and lighting systems.

Do you charge by the hour?

If a couple are sure they only want one or two hours of photos rather than the far more flexible full or half day rate, I charge £150 per hour.

Are you a member of any professional organisations?

Yes, please follow the link to see my official profile on the SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers). One of the largest and most respected professional photographic trade organisations in the country. The Society provides industry recognised qualifications and lists of professional member photographers throughout the world, all of them meeting strict standards of conduct as laid down in the group’s rules. http://www.swpp.co.uk/members/Olney102706.htm

What happens if you’re sick?

Luckily in eight years of photography I’ve never been so sick I couldn’t make it to a wedding, and rest assured I would have to be completely incapacitated not to come, but of course Acts of God do occur and in preparation I have close professional links to some other photographers in the local area who I could call upon in case of an emergency.

What happens if it rains?

I always try to have a contingency plan for rain, such as indoor locations for photos, but my main advice to you will be to have fun and make a feature of it! I have some fun props like giant white umbrellas, and even though it may not be what you hoped for on the day some of my favourite weddings have had some rain. They become very memorable!

How do we organise the group photos?

As my style is as close to pure documentary as possible I try to keep group photos to an absolute minimum, and many weddings choose not to have any at all. If you would like group photos then before the wedding I’ll ask you to have a little think about what group photos you would like and to write a list for me. That way we’re all organised and you don’t have to think about it on the day.

What is the High-Resolution disc?

This is a DVD disc containing all of the professionally edited images taken during your wedding, at full 21 megapixel resolution (or near enough) and saved as easily manageable JPEG format. Every image will have been individually corrected and made as perfect as possible by me using years of Photoshop skills. They will be conveniently labelled for you to make simple selections from, and If you have requested it there will be a selection of black and white images as well. They will all be print-ready and as the resolution is so high you will be able to enlarge them to almost any size. The discs come in a presentation case with your names and the date and location of the wedding printed on them for you to keep safely forever.

How long do you stay with us for?

Unlike many photographers, when a couple book me for a whole day, or a half day, they don’t have to worry about any strict time limits. I work with each couple on an individual basis. I’ll arrive as early as is necessary or appropriate, usually before the bride’s preparations, and at the end of the day I’ll only leave when you are completely happy. This is usually sometime after the first dance when you are both finally enjoying a well deserved dance and a drink! I know that the timetable of weddings do not always go exactly to plan, so with me there are no hidden costs if things get delayed. I have a plan but go with the flow of the day.

Will you visit the location before the date?

Yes, I always visit the location before hand to plan the day according to your schedule. I often know the wedding location anyway, but I treat each wedding completely individually, so I draw up a detailed plan for locations of the photographs, the approximate timetable for them, what the light is likely to be like etc, and to have a contingency plan in case of bad weather. I also like to introduce myself to the wedding co-ordinators and staff if I can.

Can we meet you before the wedding?

A pre wedding meeting is included in the price and I always recommend we meet at some point so we can go through the details of the day, but most importantly so we can get to know each other before the big day. I won’t take up too much of your time but I have many key questions to ask so that I’m completely organised before the date which means you don’t have to worry about a thing. It will also give us a chance to sign a wedding agreement together and to take a booking deposit of half the fee, so that you have complete peace of mind knowing I have the date booked only for you.
